He still writes and says all his speeches. A teleprompter doesn't give you stage presence.

No, but a teleprompter makes it much easier to give a speech.

But it doesn't affect //how// you deliver the speech beyond being able to remember it. Even if he didn't have the teleprompter, he would still have it written out on paper (or at least some notes highlighting the key points) as does every speaker.

It's much easier to read or speak with inflection when every word is spelled out, rather than a few bullet points of key notes. I'm not saying he doesn't give good speeches, I'm just saying that he doesn't deserve as much credit as people give him for his speeches. Many great speakers have existed in history who did not use teleprompters. They may have written down their speeches, but they didn't directly read them.

But either way, they were (at least some of the time) reading from their notes. It's not like Obama sits there staring at a teleprompter the whole time.

Please, I like Obama, but there is no way he has the time to right his own speeches. He gives his communications department the theme of his speech and dozens of speech writers work on it and give it to him about 5 minutes before he's due to give said speech.

*left wing. Relating to the post, I feel like we can say that about the majority of presidents. It's a "popularity" contest, and by popularity I mean eloquence and charisma. Either way, they're still all very intelligent. I'm not about to go and say a Harvard graduate is stupid.
