+275 Knowing a great deal is not the same as being smart; intelligence is not information alone but also judgment, the manner in which information is collected and used. You really cannot gain intelligence, you can gain knowledge but it's not the same. amirite?

Smart - having lots of knowledge (information) Intelligence - being able to make logical decisions and conclusions Wisdom - being Smart and intelligent and being able to use them both together

All THREE of which can be increased within oneself. Not everyone manages to do so, but I promise you, Socrates didn't pop out of his mom philosophizing.

This should be a teacher's policy.

What you described as intelligence is actually analysis and logical skills, which can definitely be learned. I think of intelligence as your brain's capacity to learn, its potential use, which is why we can say humans are more "intelligent" than, I don't know, a squirrel.

then thats where we differ, i think of intelligence as exactly being your analysis and logical skills. if thats the case, then all humans are of about the same intelligence, and from some of the people ive talked to..... but i see youre point and i do not wish to start an argument over this because you do not agree with my opinion and i do not agree with yours and theres not a damn thing we can do about it

Analysis and logic is what you're taught in school. For example I can much better analyze the logic of an essay now than I could in ninth grade because I took AP Lit last year and AP Lang this year. One day you're going to have persuade someone of a different opinion of you. I'm flabbergasted by your statement "there's not a damn thing we can do about it."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ono really? really really? you are flabergasted someone doesnt want to waste the time convincing you what their idea of intelligence is?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's your post, brah. Do what you want.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no brah its not my post but even if it was, seems most people disagree with you

by Anonymous 12 years ago

why does that flabergast you? i think its pretty cool someone respects your opinion enough to not try to change it.

This is a comments section on the Internet. If this person chooses to tell me he disagrees with me I think it's fair to assume he's willing to argue the point. Respecting an opinion is not synonymous with choosing not to argue it. Paper bags take more energy to produce than plastic bags. Have a nice day!

Intelligence is the speed at which you learn, usually measured throught an iq test. Knowledge is all information availible in the universe. Wisdom is applied experience. Wisdom comes through failure and sucess.
