Just as many, percentage wise, heads of churches of other denominations molest children, but people have always loved attacking the church, so that's what's on the news. Also, there are a lot more priests in the world than heads of other denominations since catholicism is largest christian denomination in the world. Don't discriminate a whole religion based on the extraordinary examples.

Yes, of course the act is truly evil, and I would never advocate it. However, any global organization will have corruption simply because of its size. However, since the church is held to higher standards by the rest of the world, as it should, any slight error (yes I know this is not a slight error, but for argument's sake) is immediately pointed out and ridiculed. Now, the church has done evil things in the past, as the Bible predicted, but is this incident as bad as the Spanish Inquisition and Galileo? No, those were truly evil, but the church cannot watch over every member of the church. It's impossible, so for a global organization, I believe they are doing fairly well for having stayed together for 2000 years, lol. PS The church never officially apologized for the Galileo incident until 1992, lol. I can make fun of my own church and still believe in it. We're a bunch of cannibals who worship a zombie, but I love it!

All you need to last 2000 years is two or three people with room-temperature IQs, a hundred sheep to follow them, and their two-hundred children to teach.

Wow...just diss an entire religion....way to discriminate...

The infallibility of the Pope does not mean that the Pope can do no wrong and doesn't sin, which would be hypocritical since all humans sin, but instead was instituted to protect the followers of the Pope. If following the Pope's orders causes a Catholic to be lead astray (except for mortal sin, which is intolerable in any case), then the Catholic is not punished because God was using the Pope to some purpose, even in a negative way. Such as the Spanish inquisition, God didn't exactly /want/ that to happen, but it had to happen for his plan, etc...I am upset as well, but the Pope did those things before he was Pope, and how much of a hypocrite of a catholic would I be if I didn't forgive him? I haven't done my research yet on the Pope's past, so I can't make a judgement about that. (continued)

The church does not teach you to "fear" God, as most interpret it because they are still stuck in the Old testament, but instead just to love him, which is different from just belief because it requires sacrifice. So no, the church is not trying to use fear to extort money. I give money because I /want/ to. Anyway, we will not agree on this issue, but I enjoyed discussing it. However, please do not generalize so quickly in the future. Also, as you said yourself, this situation should not be taken lightly, so why are you joking about it? lol, thought that was ironic.
