What makes you say that animals don't have souls? Humans are animals. Every animal has their niche. Cheetahs are fast. Chameleons can change color. Alligators are strong, etc. Humans are simply much more intelligent. Please don't pull any 'WE'RE GAWDS CHOSEN SPEESHEEZ LULL" crap on me, unless you'd like to explain the reasoning behind why you believe the universe was created by a rib-woman and a talking tree that put a curse on all of humanity for eating an apple, and why an 'all-knowing, all-powerful being' decided to slay hundreds of thousands of innocent little boys to punish one man.
