+341 Ballet is extremely underrated, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

u mean underrated?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

under-estimated and underrated, but just to make u guys happy i changed it to underrated...ahaha but underestimate dancers to be dinky and cute and prissy, but truth comes to truth, we sweat and swear like sailors and work harder than a lot of athletes.

I think after Black Swan people have started understanding its beauty and complexity in a much better way

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ballet doesn't impress me

by Anonymous 12 years ago

poo you

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it looks really easy but to dance on your toes ouch

by Anonymous 12 years ago

eh you get used to it. :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's for sure one of the hardest things to master, because it's both an art AND a sport

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Like any other sport

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I fail to see the art in football.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, don't forget that part, YOU fail to see it. Anything that needs mastery is an art in it's own way. Just like a spectator can't understand the full extent of ballet by just observing, I'm 100% you can't do the same with football (I'm assuming American).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No.....Football is not an art, you see BALLET IS A PERFORMING ART that enchants and audience. you put your heart and soul in it and project that to your audience....i know it kind of sounds cheesy, but that's just what ballet or any dance is. Moving is just moving, but when you put emotion and soul into it, it's dance

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It amazes me how someone already involved in sports can be so ignorant. So you're saying, you dancers are the only ones who pour your "soul" and "emotion" into doing what you do? You think that all football players do is buff up on steroids then go out and try to hurt as many people as they can? There is an art to it, that only some people can understand (I don't, but there are people out there who do see it) as a soccer player I know that I at least try to put my own twist on the game, it's not just passing others, it's about doing it elegantly, it's not just about taking the ball from someone, it's doing it gracefully. Being able to play on your feet is tiring and cumbersome work and while you twirl and "dance" on your court by yourself, we're out and practicing our art head to head with each other. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this, I'm sure every athlete feels that way about their own sport.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, i'm not saying that dancers are the only ones putting their heart and soul, but dancers project their heart and soul to the audience, and if you can understand it or not, anyone can tell the difference between movements and really dancing. Every athlete obviously puts their heart and soul into their dancing, but the difference between dance and any other sport is that people are enchanted at it, and it probably the most physically tiring sport that uses your whole body and mind.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can't argue with you... watching soccer is the most enchanting thing ever. To me at least. I watch ballet and it really doesn't do anything for me. Personally. I'm not going to say what you're saying though, because I know that different people respond differently to the same thing. You don't think that playing soccer is just as tiring? When you're out in the pitch not only are you held accountable for what you do, but also for how you respond to the other people friends or otherwise. There are so many variables you have to take into account when you're out in the field that a spectator can't possibly imagine. And yet, when performed right, the audience is mesmerized and taken by the conduct of the performer

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok, i will give you that. Soccer is tiring, too. & i think it takes knowledge and appreciation to REALLY understanda and be enchanted to the fullest about any sport. :) so i think we both make valid points, and yeah!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay good, don't think that I was denouncing ballet, I was just saying that the others are just as involved.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

okeydokeys...but since i'm a ballet dancer and i'm biased, i still have to say Ballet is better :]

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I wouldn't have it any other way

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I used to love it, but hated doing it because I had some bitchy teacher when I was younger. But now I have a non-bitchy teacher so it's koo'.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I once had a ballet teacher that hit us with a cane :/ But it's the mean ones you always seem to learn the most from.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it @1199300 (Ariodante): I think that we all ahve those bitchy teachers that makes us cry but, i agree, they are the ones that make us stronger : )

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Is that legal... >.>

by Anonymous 12 years ago

notttt really....not anymore! at my studio, there was a thing that you sign in the beginning of the year that said the teachers have a right to touch you to HELP you get better, but like not violently/sexually or something...you know? haha weird but it helps against lawsuits i guess...?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

: @1200523 (orangesocks): i worded that weirdly, but you get it

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're looking at it from the veiwpoint of a non dancer. For dancers that's just the way things are. It's way ballet has been taught forever. And it's not like she whacks us so hard we get giant bruises or anything.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i'm saying it politically correctly

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Of a nondancer... no wtf? No, actually, you're right. Dancing since you've been 3 is obviously bs. /sarcasm.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I love how I can tell who is a ballerina and who isn't just by reading their comments. I am a ballerina by the way. The great thing about ballet is that once you are good at it, you can do basically any other dance there is. Except for dancing at parties. I've been dancing for fourteen years but every time I go to a dance people think I'm wasted.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, i know!! Haha like that's the most mortfying thing haha like sure, i can perform in front of an audience doing something completely ridiculpus....but when it comes to dance parties....oh man...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I totally know what you mean. I go to a party and I'm doing the awkward white-girl hip swivel.
