You do realize that they close very slowly and lightly brush against your finger when they do envelop it? It doesn't hurt at all.

If they close very slowly then how would they catch the insect? The plant would need the nitrogen since they live in environments lacking nitrogen. If a plant tried to eat someone, it would still scare them shitless if they didn't know it closes.

I had a Venus Fly Trap and it took it literally a week to close on a fly once the fly landed on it. Pretty lame.

Really? hum. I did a little research and it says it takes a venus fly trap less than a second to close. I guess yours didn't have any motivation.
