Being spelt differently means they are DIFFERENT words.
"Stupid" and "dumb" mean the same thing. Does that make those two words the same word? No. No, it doesn't.

(Chauncy Pickles): The point isn't that they mean the same thing. They're pronounced the same way, except for some reason Americans spell it as "uh" and the British spell it "er". They're the same word because they're both "uhh".
