+225 It's sickening to think that there are cats and dogs that eat better than the majority of children in this world. amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not if you care more about cats and dogs than you do most of the children in the world.

I totally agree. I guess it's easier for people (including me) to spend money on our pets because they are easier to love than an endless multitude of unknown people across the world. I donate to charities sometimes, but it all just seems like a drop in the bucket, you know? Shamed to say this, but its true

Why do animals deserve less than humans?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I say animals can basically fend for themselves. They instinctively know how to find food and what not, but us as humans have to learn. And in society today, people can't thrive like they once could. It's not that animals deserve less, they just don't need the help that we give them.

animals cannot thrive the way they once could either. There were studies done on domesticated dogs that showed that they had given up a lot of their natural hunting/wild instincts in order to form new instincts that would allow them to fit in better with our lifestyle.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, I see where you're coming from here as well. But animals still manage a lot better without any help from us than we let them. We don't need to fend for them when they have the resources and intelligence to do it themselves.

I think that we should be making up for the skills that they have lost (ie. Natural hunting instincts) as well as the fact that it is not socially acceptable to let your dogs/cats go out hunting, but as the OP was probably talking about, I do think it's ridiculous that some pets get gourmet food that is better than what the majority of humans eat. I think all humans and their pets should be fed and looked after equally.ish. Gosh, this is tough...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We should make up for what we've taken away. I completely agree with that. But I don't see how. If we keep feeding them and "babying" them they'll never have to completely adapt and eventually HAVE to look after them like humans because they will have lost the ability to fend for themselves.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, you're right. But unfortunately we've porbably already gotten to the point of no return. If we stopped caring for our animals the way we do now...*shudders*. Although, I certainly don't think dog hotels, dressing animals up, caryying them in your handbags, dog salons, or any of that is acceptable-that we could get rid of. Basically, we just need to treat our animals with a sensible level of care. Not too little, or that's neglect and abuse, but not so much that they become akin to spoiled children.

I agree with you totally. *Yay for civil arguments on amirite*

Prizes for all :D

It's sickening when people think children deserve food more than animals.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because they're equal, better in some ways and many pet owners consider their pets adopted children. Just the way this post is worded makes me angry, as if there's something terribly wrong with feeding your pets.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You think all life is equal?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not when you're like me and don't care for people...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I understand, and I respect you. But, I just can't stand to see people who are just like me, (no better or no worse) go through intense starvation. Those are our brothers and sisters, and they can't even claim a full belly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, that's why I beat my pets when they don't finish their food. Ungrateful bastards.
