A big piece of copper would be worth less than a little piece of silver. Jsut saying... In Singapore a 50c coin is bigger than a $1 coin. We only have notes for 2$ and above.

Both aren't 100% one material here in America. The dime and the penny are both made out of copper I think. Just different "coatings"

I think when they were made they were pure. They hanged the material to save resources, but never changed the dimensions. Or something like that.

Or "As a kid you always thought it was weird how some coins are smaller in size but higher in value than others, amirite?" It's not just Americans. e.g. a 5c coin is bigger than a 10c one.
