+296 Earth is so insignificant. This planet could could just disappear and the rest of the universe wouldn't even budge, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, what else would the universe do? The universe doesn't have a consciousness.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never said it did. I meant that nothing else would be different.

How do you know?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How do you know something will happen?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Haha! I never said something will happen!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you dissagreed with my post then yeah actually you are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or they could have just thought that the post was stupid. You don't have to disagree with a post to vote No Way.

The Universe, despite it's vastness and incomprehensible size, is very delicate. Had one simple thing been different, we may not exist today. And, as the only known planet with life, I would say we're incredibly significant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I wouldn't say that the only planet known to support any type of life is insignificant in any way.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's the only planet WE know that supports life. There might be a million more.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There might be. But does that make Earth insignificant?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

@1301616 (wobbuffet): Either you think it is or you don't. I myself think one person out of a planet of 7 billion is insignificant. Other people would disagree. Same goes to one planet in a universe.

The moon would be sad

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah but the same thing goes for any other planet. Or solar system. Or galaxy.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I could kind of see this causing a religious debate

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the moon do some pretty weird stuff without a planet to orbit?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, doesn't it use Earth's gravitational pull to revolve around us?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, it does.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think the universe (at least part of it) would literally budge, because if a vacuum replaced the ball of mass that is Earth, gravitational forces in our solar system and perhaps beyond it would get all out of whack.
