+209 You sometimes wonder why scientists pick such long and hard names to pronounce on life forms that they discover- everyone would remember them more if they weren't so hard to say, amirite?

all science terms are latin, because it's a dead language. They chose latin because there's no possible way of it changing, and they can permanetly name plants and animals. Just thought I'd share some information

It makes for better unification of the biologic field if it's not based on one set language. Ease of pronunciation is not the goal when other, more important things can be considered.
