+326 In Toy Story 3, ending the movie with the gang burning in the incinerator would have been epic in a sad sort of way. It would have sent a clear message that life does not always have happy endings, and evil is not always avenged, but at least we have friends alongside us the whole way, amirite?

If that happened though, everyone who has waited for the final sequel for so long would have outraged. From an originality and deep ending perspective it's a good idea, but everyone would have ended up being too pissed to appreciate it.

not me. i would have found it moving and it would cause me to appreciate the whole series even more

Well yes, everyone was an exaggeration. I meant most really. But I think the problem is Pixar had to worry about pleasing fans. If they didn't end it happily like the first two, with the differences it already has, many people would say it doesn't belong.

i dont know . i think the ending is sad enough ++im watching toy story 3 right now (:

The ending would have been too abrupt. If there were other toys who knew they were incinerated who could have kept the memory of them alive and let the movie end a little more gradually, then that ending might have worked. When I watched it the first time though, I seriously had no idea how the hell they would have gotten out.

Well then they couldn't do anything more with toy story. Why would they do that when they could make more money out of it?

lol greedy pigs. oh well as long as they keep making good movies i will watch them

I agree :) dont kill our childhood memories!

It's a kid's movie... That's the toddler equivalent of ending Harry Potter with "...and then Harry woke up"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Don't you dare say that! :/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no it's not. it would make the movie more epic, not a stupid dream. death is not just a dream, it is a serious fact of life. it would be like if harry potter ended with harry never coming back from heaven

INCEPTION.

First off, it's a kids movie. Little kids would not understand that at all and would just cry for days because the toys were dead. And maybe they'd understand it years later, but they would always have a negative opinion of the movie because it made them sad during the developmental stages. Also, I thought the way it ended was bittersweet enough. Andy made me cry. Then again, the OP's suggested ending makes more sense than the actual deus ex machina solution. Realistically speaking (or as realistic as you can get when dealing with talking toys) they should have been incinerated, although the random aliens made for a better ending.

And it would be pretty funny seeing the audience reaction as they see Woody's plastic face melt along with all the other toys. What would the music for the credits be after watching something that depressing? A slowed down sad version of You've got a Friend in Me?

I thought the same exact thing while watching the movie. And to think, all this time I thought my morbid tastes went unshared...

Tear-jerker quality aside, the whole series of movies is just too goofy and fun to end that way. Although I'm opposed to saying that Pixar is a children's company, children do make up a large portion of their audience. And no matter who their audience was, that would just be a sick and horrid way to end it. Also, the theme of the TS movies are more along the lines of letting go and learning to cope with major changes. The message you're laying out doesn't fit. Every movie can't be stuffed with every moral and every ounce of symbolism. Although I must admit that the aliens were quite a Deus ex Machina. It made me cheer for the true epicness of how it was pulled off and laugh at the continuity nod, but afterwards I wondered if it could have been fixed a different way.

When I saw this scene I got incredibly teared and choked up. What was going through my mind was "Oh my god if they end it right here I'm gonna loose it. This is going to be the greatest movie ever" Then they tried to do the claw gag and I felt betrayed

It kind of annoyed me how the aliens went back and saved them later, because no one really cared when the aliens ran off earlier at the dump. Still, I probably would have cried if they had burned up.
