+145 Theoretically, a musician could somewhat improve their sight-reading skills by getting really good at Guitar Hero, amirite?

no, thats color recognition.

If you've played Guitar Hero, you'll recognize that the buttons (when played) are lower than those on the right. If you've ever heard someone try to sight read, occasionally they'll try playing or singing a note that's lower when it's supposed to be higher. It doesn't make up for genuine practice, but it can help a little.

If it helps at all, it'll only help guitar, though...

No, it'll help everyone READ music, regardless what they play. You will get better at recognizing things on time, but not necessarily the notes.

I play Baritone, it hasn't helped at all.

Sight reading is all about maintaining the tempo of your playing and keeping your place, even if the notes are too difficult to play. I often noticed freshmen trying to sightread in orchestra, and if they got to a difficult passage, it's like they completely lose awareness that the tempo is still going and they slow down to try and play the notes. Guitar Hero could potentially help you improve at sightreading because, just like a piece of music, it makes you keep up with the tempo of the piece and never fall behind, no matter how accurately you're playing. It's also helpful that there are various difficulty settings in the game.

in theory i guess that could work. i play guitar hero on expert but it hasnt helped me with musical stuff as far as i can tell.

Yes, because 5 buttons on a plastic toy translates over to a 6 stringed, 22 fretted instrument. And playing a red and yellow chord doesn't make you able to play anything on a guitar. Main reason why I hate guitar hero
