+273 It's frustrating when somebody did both good and bad things, but it's not socially acceptable to credit them for the good. Like if I say that I respect Hitler for his very successful political speaking, but not for killing millions of innocents, I'm still credited as being a dick. amirite?

You know if you study Hitler a little more in depth, you'll realize he was actually quite an asshole and NOT just for killing Jews for luls. The reason for the economic boom after his entrance into power is because he did things that no other nonasshole would do... he reserved the rights to being treated like a human being ONLY to Germans and made the immigrants gtfo. If you think about it, he made the country better by making it worse for everyone who isn't ideal for his future (Aryan). AND if that's not bad enough he had to go and start a war, which a lot of people think boosts the economy, which really didn't do anything, because the money spent preparing for the war and fighting it could have been spent elsewhere to improve their nation. Although the immigrants are the ones who probably paid for the war... so I don't know. And militarily speaking he is the reason that Germans lost the war, he fired all his generals (that were going to lead him to victory) and decided to be the sole proprietor of the military.... In order to have gotten Germany (or any nation) from a depression to a booming economy, you'd either have to be a genius or an evil asshole, in my opinion.

He promised the people a stable economy, they voted for him, and he delivered.

He gained his power by manipulation. Germany was still bitter about WWI and he promised to make Germany the greatest power in the world. I agree that he was quite an effective leader and was good at rallying people up, but what he was saying was all manipulation. It was propaganda.

I'd second what you said. He was a genius at manipulation and giving public speech... but I think other than that he didn't have much.

He delivered to the Aryans, but everyone else was fucked... you can't deny that and making anything better by killing off/mistreating any whole group (who is a constructive part of the community) isn't worth it. Btw what you said was included in my comment. I said he did improve the economy at the cost of the minorities.

Yeah, i realize that it was redundant. But he did what he had to to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But what he did would now be considered illegal....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

He went beyond the usual evil

Often times the bad outweighs the good.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The problem is that you saif you respect him. Its pretty clear to any moral person that the bad outweighs the good. Its one thing to say "yeah, his political speeches were impressive," and quite another to say you RESPECT him for them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think OP was saying they respected his abilities with political speaking, not necessarily as a person.

I knew someone would eventually have to get it.

If thats the case, then I agree with this post. No reason not to acknowledge something for the sake of political correctness.
