+306 It's ridiculous that stores want you to pay 30 dollars for a pair of shorts that doesn't even have 30 bucks worth of material, Amirite?

If it had more than 30 bucks worth of material they'd be losing money....

Labor, Shipping, Store maintenance, profit....

Buy the materials and make your own clothes then.

Apparently the majority of voters on this post don't understand the simplest of economics :/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No we understand... It's just that some places only charge 10 bucks for a pair of shorts, so you know these expensive assholes are making 20+ dollars in profit for every pair of shorts,

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Then, if that was what the poster meant, she should have said that they charged 30 bucks for something that doesn't even have 10 bucks of material in it. The way she posted implied that she thought that you should be charged exactly what the item cost the store.

Shut up Meg.

30 dollars is a bit ridiculous, but not for that reason. More because its about 30 cents worth of material. I'd pay 15 dollars maybe.

I agree with the above posts. If you had a lemonade stand and you spent 50 cents on each glass of lemonade, would you sell each at 50 cents? No. That's ridiculous. You would sell each at 75 cents or even a dollar. The whole point of selling somehting is to make a profit. In OP's case, the linen farmers need to make a profit, then the fabric makers, then the sewers who make the final product, then the retail store. Each time, the price increases so each person makes a profit. It's like selling your glass of lemonade for 75 cents, then you customer turns to his friend and sells it to them for $1. Everyone needs to profit, and the customer's profit is ownership. But I would never pay $30 for shorts . . .

OKAY FOLKS! We get that the goal is to make a profit! But the post still brings up a good point! People are beginning to pay more for less substance. You know how those g-string thongs are made from less cotton than I can find in the top of a pill bottle, but can cost up to 50 bucks? THAT's what "CountryNinja" means...

Thank you! I didn't think there would be this much controversy over this post.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This post isn't controversial, it's just stupid. Even if they are charging more, it's still supply and demand, if you don't want to pay that much, don't buy it.
