+252 You don't get why people are judging other people, because they're listening to pop instead of "real music". Going this way, we should equally criticize folks, who haven't watched classic films (be honest, how many of you have watched "12 Angry Men" and "Sunset Boulevard"?) or can't name more than 5 ballerinas, amirite?

People should watch those movies. I think it's an important way to make sure we don't forget our past. Plus, 12 Angry Men is just a fantastic movie.

12 Angry Men was indeed good, and your profile pic is freakin' amazing. Sooo....let's just be best friends. XP

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yup, 12 Angry Men is just great. But, you know, I wouldn't attack people, who didn't watch it. Not everyone likes this kind of films.

Personally, it's not so much that I hate people who listen to pop music as it is that I get brownie points for people who listen to genres similar to mine. Which is human nature; you're going to like someone more if they have similar tastes. To be honest, the only people I've noticed IRL who seem to hate people who listen to pop are angsty teenagers who yell DON'T LABEL ME LUL I'M NOT A SOUP CAN despite trying to fit into the scene/punk/goth/hipster/what-the-fuck-ever label. People bitch about it on the internet because hey, it's the internet, etc etc

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Although I agree with you, I've seen 12 Angry Men several times :P

real music is instruments/voices. not using computers in my personal opinion. i'm personally a metal fan myself :p.

Part of the problem though, is that there's a lot of good pop music that isn't just synth and auto-tune or rap. But that's all anyone thinks of.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Personally, I only judge because of how mainstream Pop is. I'm sure there are many people who like Pop for legitimate reasons, but I see a lot of people who only listen to mainstream songs and basically nothing else, as if they're just sort of letting the popularity of the song determine how much they like it. When someone merely follows the mainstream, they really don't stand out to me. I feel like they have a shallow personality and they don't really have anything that makes them stand out. Those are the type of people that give Pop music a bad connotation for me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But I can see why so many people like pop. It's what's popular, it's what's there without having to look for it. It's played a lot, your friends listen to it a lot, and if you're around it a lot it's what you'll listen to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's exactly my point though. Let's make one thing clear here: EVERYONE likes music. The odds that there isn't SOME type of music that a person doesn't like is so impossibly slim, it's perfectly reasonable to rule it out completely. So think about it. You're point to the majority liking Pop is that it's simple and easy to find and it's popular. But if that's the reason someone enjoys a certain type of music, then do they really enjoy the music? They would essentially just be letting other people decide what music they listen to. If someone allows others to tell them what they want, then how much individuality do they have? Probably some, but they don't show it. Honestly, if there's nothing that makes them stand out, why exactly would care about them? They're just another blank face.

So?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I've seen both those movies......This seems to just be a way of you bragging that you've seen classic movies

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not :P I'm glad I watched these movies, but I'm not trying to be like "Woah, I watched an old film so I'm better than you". Instead of "Sunset Boulevard" and "12 Angry Men" I could write "Schindler's List" or "It's a Wonderful Life", which I haven't seen, but these two seemed more appropriate. Just, you know, my point is not everybody has be into classic cinema and not everybody has to be into "real music". BTW - still. I can't name any ballerina at all :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Haha, my mom never turns off TCM, so I've seen like every classic movie ever. Good and awful.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's more like people who listen to pop judge others, but that's just my 2 cents.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But I have to no way, because even though it's bad to judge others, I do understand why people are judging other people, and that's what the post is about.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If people didn't judge someone by their music tastes, movie tastes, clothing, etc, they would just find something else to judge each other on, because it's what they do. I think you aren't looking at this from both sides though, because it's just as likely that a person with a preference to pop music is going to judge a metalhead. As humans, we instinctively fear the things that are different and unusual to our own selves.
