+217 If somebody were able to freeze time, presumably everything would be completely stopped except for the time freezer. So, wouldn't everything include the air molecules? And if the air molecules were completely stopped, absolute zero would be reached. In which case, the time freezer would die instantly, amirite?

I've always understood freezing time to mean all living things were frozen. So plants, animals, people, etc. would be stopped but things like air molecules or chairs wouldn't. Are air molecules living? I don't know.

so then we'd all be stuck frozen in time for all eternity.... omg NOBODY FREEZE TIME FOR THE SAKE OF HUMANITY

we wouldn't even know. Its like everything is put on pause.

yeahh but still

The meaning of "freezing" in "freezing time" doesn't refer to the physical change from liquid to solid, so your logic doesn't really make sense. "Freezing time" refers to (what PinkSponge said up there) the fact that living things are momentarily stopped.

I don't mean that the molecules would deposit and solidify, I mean they would stop moving. Besides, gases can't freeze. They would have to pass through the liquid state first, and then the liquid could freeze. Gases solidify through deposition.

Someone got an A in science.

When I think of someone freezing time I think of the person being able to move incredibly fast for that one infinitesimal fraction of a second where it seems as if nothing is moving.

Superman style, then.

But time isn't a real thing, only the progression of movement, or a measurement of sequence. It's not like you can catch it in a jar and be like, "Look, mommy! I caught time!"

way to ruin my life

If time stops, and everything including the molecules and all stop moving,I don't think it would actually approach absolute zero because it takes time to freeze...? Idk.

I heard somewhere, I think in science class that gravity. The greater the gravitational field, the slower time runs. So technically speaking, in order to stop time completely we would need to create a powerful gravitational field, and even then you can't pick and choose who it effects.

…You do realize that I don't think the whole time freezing thing is real right? That I'm talking about super powers in books/movies/etc?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know. I'm just saying that it might be possible.

Gotcha :) Sounds good to me.
