I think the best characters have both good and bad qualities, which makes them more believable. But I don't know about evil ... I guess it would depend on how you define it.

If they are entirely good, they get boring. If they are entirely bad, you spend the whole duration of the book/movie/whatever being pissed off at them.

I think having both good and bad qualities for a character shows how human tthe character is which makes them more relatable to the reader.

almost every character has both. its just more realistic that way.
