+171 Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense, amirite?

With this logic, I'll never go skydiving. Common sense says I could die, my own reason says I can't afford it.

I like the actual quote a lot better. "Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions just because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

I'm not sure if I believe you right now.

Well my reason is that 1+1=3. Therefore I believe that 2+2=5

This is the type of question I don't know what to vote on. Certainly we should not blindly believe everything, but some things may be true which violate our own reason and sense
