Why are almost all the superheroes located in New York? Stop me if I'm wrong, but isn't there worse crime in even worse places? amirite?

I think NY is actually one of the safest big cities.

How many superheroes are really in NYC? I can't think of that many myself. There's Spider-man and Captain America (kind of). Gotham City is its own place and would actually be located in the Jersey City vicinity.
