+181 If you had a time machine and went to kill yourself in the past, then you never should've existed in the first place, amirite?

This is called the grandparents paradox, or something. If you went back in time and killed your grandparents, you would have never been born. But if you'd never been born, you couldn't have gone back in time and killed them. Also, I've heard another version, where you become immortal, because you killed your grandparents and therefore weren't born, but still exist, and without a birth you can't have a death, or some shit that I can't be bothered to remember.

who says when you time travel you control your own actions? lets say you travel back to when you were six. if you told him you were him from the future, then the six year old (AKA you) would know it when he grew up and did the same thing. the thing with time travel is it happens in split seconds, and yet over the course of years. what i think happens is that you merely watch what happen, because logically speaking it has already happened

I read a book about that called "The Power of Un". It's about a boy who meets an old man and receives a time-travel device called the Unner. Later, it turns out the old man is him from the futer. The boy finds a new Unner, and since his old one broke, he has to figure how to give the new Unner time-travel capabilities. It's a great book.
