I think you need to be more specific than "drugs". Heroine=bad, Antipsychotics=good. Meth=bad, drugs to lower bad cholesterol=good.

Because they are being pretentious about it. Implying that all people who do drugs are deluded, bad people with an addiction is just as ignorant as saying all people who are against drugs are squares who just don't know what they're missing.

When people use the phrase "doing drugs" they usually mean doing illicit drugs or abusing prescription drugs, so everyone who's saying "what about pharmaceuticals?" you are intentionally misconstruing what OP was trying to say and you know it.
