+103 Anyone that would pay over $200 for a pair of shoes/boots either has way too much money or is an idiot, amirite?

I bought a pair of really nice riding-style leather boots for $300, but they are waterproof and really warm. They've lasted me for three years and I intend to wear them till they fester off my feet.

I bought $200 leather boots and thus far have lasted over 2 years and when I clean them, look pretty much brand new. They're super sturdy and I wear them all through winter. None of my other winter boots lasted, even the $50 ones. Sometimes spending a little more for quality is worth it. Which is better, buying $50 boots every winter or having a $200-300 pair that last for years?

Yeah, very true. My dad always says "I'm not rich enough to be able to buy cheap things."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Haha I love that. It's so true, too.

Not really, people collect shoes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, you can collect even //more// shoes with that money!

In addition to my comment above about spending a little more for quality instead of spending small amounts frequently on crap, professional dancers have to spend tons of money on their shoes. It's the most important part of an outfit for dancers, as they're on their feet for hours during practice and even when performing.

Okay, that's understandable. But I don't mean functional shoes, I'm just talking about people spending tons of money just for the looks or the latest trend.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, I think that's silly. Especially with how trends come and go so quickly. But I don't think there's anything wrong with spending a little extra on a quality piece that's going to last vs. something cheap that you'll need to replace soon.

Eh it depends on the time that it lasts. For instance, I've had a pair of aviator sunglasses for about 5 months, and they cost 5 or 10 dollars. So if I can spend $20 a year on shades that will break, or $150 on quality ones, I'll take the cheap ones. But with those boots I understand.

Yeah, sunglasses can only be so good, really. I tend to break and lose mine, so I'm going to buy cheap ones. But if you're someone who takes really good care of them, and they'll last ages, it makes sense (though I personally can't justify spending that much on sun glasses). I don't often spend large amounts of money on clothes and shoes (I window shop and die a little inside because I can't afford stuff lol). But I'm definitely willing to for a good pair of boots. I *really* want a pair of Mukluks (they last forever, like 10+ years and they're sooo comfortable) but they're almost $300 :(

How can you have too much money?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I paid about $350 for my work boots. Not a single regret either. My entire body is less sore at the end of every day, compared to other boots I've bought.

A really high quality pair of boots, that will be very comfortable and will last a very long time can easily be worth $200. You should never skimp on the things that separate you from the ground, shoes, socks, bedding, desk chair, because you will spend almost all of your life in contact with one of them. Anyone who wouldn't pay $200 for a pair of boots is an idiot.

Alright, let me amend this: excluding shoes/boots that are actually worth that much because of the material/craftsmanship. I understand buying expensive work boots or riding boots or whatever. I was talking about the kind of people that buy a $200 pair of shoes that are only $200 because they're made by some snooty company or are the "in" thing. Like uggs. I don't know how much uggs cost, but let's just say they're $200. Paying $200 for boots that are only different from other boots in the way they look and the brand name on them is just stupid.

ITT rich bitches.

There's a shop I know of that sells boots for $200 and even higher. They've been around for decades. They're all extremely well made and each pair comes with a lifetime warrantee, so they really are the last boots you'll ever need to buy, and if for some reason they aren't, then they replace them. Compare to boots that are $50-$80 that need to be replaced every few years and you see there are some cases in which spending so much on boots is NOT an idiotic move.
