+304 Day of the Dead (Mexico) sounds like Halloween only better, because it actually means something to people, amirite?

Halloween means something to Americans also... candy. Doesn't make it better, just makes it different.

Just my opinion, but reflecting on the meaning of death and celebrating deceased loved ones seems like a better purpose than candy and costumes

Well we're all people. I don't celebrate it at all, but I'm sure the Mexicans aren't so noble about it either. Anyway, why would you want to celebrate the dead? I mean, what's the point. I would much rather celebrate life. But that may just be me.

Well, I think they are taking the time to remember what the dead meant to them while they were alive. There are also some spiritual elements of talking the the dead and giving/receiving blessing from the dead. It just sounds really awesome to me. You are also right that not everyone who celebrates Day of the Dead is so noble in their traditions, but really that could be said about any holiday anywhere in the world

No I know, but I was just saying, it's really not that different from American halloween.

It's very different than Halloween. You should read about it instead of making assumptions.

By that I mean in how the people treat it... I'm willing to bet my three balls that not every Mexican has a noble reason for celebrating the Day of the Dead... I don't have to do research before I put these balls on the line. That's just human nature.

Mexicans aren't so noble about it? I beg to differ, never have I seen such dedicated people with this tradition.

Did anyone else notice that when you look at the reddish and green of the positive and negative comments, it's like Christmas?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, a lot of us don't care too much. We MIGHT make paper mache stuff at school, but that's about it.

Halloween has meaning to pagan religions, though. It's just a less popular meaning.

Halloween means something to people, too. It's a celebration of fear, creativity, and friendships. It just isn't as obvious a meaning.
