+121 You wonder if the chemical symbol for tungsten is W just to confuse everyone, because there isn't an element with T as its symbol, amirite?

Because it comes from the latin word "wolframium". But yes, it is confusing.

i remember it because tungsten is used in flourescent lighting, which uses Watts. obviously not what it was actually supposed to be, but a lot easier than remembering "wolfram"
