+180 You should never give a friend a Christmas present that's too good, because they'll feel bad that their gift for you doesn't live up to those standards. "Hey, I got you an xbox!" "Umm, thanks. I got you a scarf.", amirite?

I'm thinking of getting my best friend the headphones he's been wanting, and they're like 30 bucks. ...but then I think..uh. no. What if he feels bad for getting me something small? And then I think WHAT THE HECK THIS IS MY BEST FRIEND NO ONE GIVES A DAMN. And then, problem solved.

30 bucks? Those must be some very nice hypothetical headphones.

Indeed they are. I said I'd get him a birthday present but never did. So this can be both.

HE'S YOUR BEST FRIEND! Get him Razer Tiamat 2.2 (7.1 is ridiculous for anyone who's not sleeping with you) and tell him it's for his birthday, too. Or whatever other event if you meant to get it for his birthday in the first place. I always combine gifts, because one awesome gift is better than two good enough gifts.

Don't get someone an iPod when all you might get in return is a hand-knitted oven mitt

But... she put a lot of time into that hand-knitted oven mitt! And there was a $15 limit!

For the first Christmas with my boyfriend we had only been going out 2 months, and he got me an expensive diamond necklace and I had just got him a wallet and I felt really bad.
