I don't think they are trying to do that...the Government is just incompetent and decaying from the inside because of a broken system. I think we make ourselves stupid. Now thanks to the internet, there is literally nothing you can't educate yourself on. We just happen to have a culture that praises stupidity because it's so much easier not to think, read, and learn. It caters to our natural laziness while making being ignorant a "cool" thing. The government doesn't have a stake in keeping us stupid because an uneducated unproductive workforce can't compete with other countries. This is a complicated topic though, so to save myself from writing a wall of text I'm going to leave it at that. :P

FAIL! If you are more educated, you are less likely to do something stupid, make more intelligent decisions, and have a better understanding of things, not to mention you probably have a job that pays you a good wage so you won't go out and rob innocent people under economic desperation. In this country if you abuse your privileges, they get stripped away from you. That's how we write the laws, you will see in history that many laws have been written because of a case group of idiots who fucked it up for everybody else. I guarantee you if some batshit crazy idiots Hijacked 2 planes and rammed them into 2 very important buildings to the U.S economy because they were stupid enough to believe that Americans are pure "evil" and that killing all those people will make some invisible man in the sky called "God" grant them a spot in "heaven" with OVER 9,000 virgins, that the government would pass a "Patriot Act" that severely limits our civil liberties.
