+140 Some musicians get more recognition than they deserve (Katy Perry, LMFAO) while artists that actually make cohesive pieces of work aren't as well known as they should be (Arcade Fire, Muse, My Chemical Romance, Slipknot, etc.) amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I would have YYA'd had it not been for the examples you gave.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have a feeling OP is just one of those people that hates all things mainstream and happy and sometimes girly, but not in the hipster way, in the rebel bad ass emo goth alternative punk kind of way. The examples they listed fall into similar genres of music...kinda. And to OP: Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. As someone already said, they have as much attention as they deserve. They make more money than the rest of us so I doubt they even care.

It's funny, I clicked on comments to say the same thing

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My chemical romance had it's time in the light, they just fell back I guess.

Rise Against... Regina Spektor....

you have restored my faith in humanity *tear*

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Glad to. But honestly, MUSE?! They're good but it's not like they don't get attention. They've gotten a ton. Slipknot? Honestly?! They're so generic. Might as well have said Three Days Grace. Seriously, there's a lot of bands/singers that write meaningful music. Let's expand our musical minds people. -sigh- Mini rant over.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There we go, examples that actually maKe sense.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Lol My Chemical Romance and Slipknot have enough recognition. (Slipknot is bad anyway)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But MCR is bad on a diffrent level. A much worse fingerless glove wearing level

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How good music is is all a matter of opinion. I may not understand how so many people like certain things, but that doesn't make them bad.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

this isn't about which musicians get recognition as much as which genres do. you listed katy perry and lmfao which are both in the pop genre while slipknot, my chemical romance are screamo/rock/etc (sorry if i'm wrong on their genres i dont listen to them) the majority of people like pop music better, so it gets more attention.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I caused the score to tip to negative one, I feel empowered

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The way I see it, all bands and artists deserve exactly the amount of attention that they have. Whether you like it or not, it's just how it works. You might not think Katy Perry is good, but if she chooses to write catchy, simple pop songs and make sexually provocative music videos to get people's attention, that's her choice. This also works in reverse: personally I think the music of Beethoven, Brahms, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky is beautiful and genius, yet few people listen to their music today. But I don't think they "deserve" any more attention than they get. They're long dead and gone and their music is challenging for today's listeners. I get it. If anything, you should be lamenting people's lack of desire to seek out better music than what they listen to and lack of appreciation for great music, but not the lack of attention some bands or artists have to deal with. Would it really be any better for My Chemical Romance or Muse if they had legions of brainwashed spoonfed idiots for a fanbase? Well, I suppose they'd make more money, but if they wanted to make more money, they would just go along the Katy Perry route, and they've already made their choice not to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't quite think Arcade Fire, Muse, MCR, and Slipknot are underground.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What are you talking about? Arcade Fire gets like no recognition--all they got was a Grammy for Album of the Year! No recognition!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The fact that I recognize all of those bands proves that they're well known.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Your examples = n

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Bright Eyes... Ben Folds Five... Cauterize...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I love you for mentioning Muse in this post :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This might be true, except you obviously just wish rock was more popular than pop, not really specific artisits

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Joni Mitchell, Elvis Costello, Screeching Weasel, Descendents don't really get much recognition. Makes me sad (cry2)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

HAHAHHAHHHAHHA Not to be rude or anything, but the first thing that came to mind was "You darned hipster..."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I feel like you're one of those people that think their music is better because its not mainstream, therefore putting yourself on a high horse. Well, get off your high horse. I would have YYA this if you hadn't listed those examples, I've listened to Slipnot and their music is just as overrated as Katy Perry or LMFAO. As for My Chemical Romance, I believe they're already had their fifteen minutes of mainstream fame.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Stop! Hatin' is bad.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Marianas Trench.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Katy Perry is actually good and really does sing. LMFAO is shit. I could make LMFAO's music with a group of homeless people I offered $5 each to come into the sound studio.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Katy Perry is heavily autotuned in her songs and this is reflected in the fact that she's utter shit live...the only credit I give her is that she at least cowrites almost all her songs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Agreed. There's actually a reason she's got a record for her music.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I came to call out OP's examples and chew bubblegum, and I'm all outta gum and everybody already beat me to it. Muse, idk, slipknot I can't stand, and except for the retard with the my chemical romance name, I didn't know they even had fans anymore. I thought the faggy scene/emo bands died out a while ago, like fall out boy and stuff.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I dont think OP realizes all those "under appreciated" bands are all major mainstream and are played constantly on the radio. In fact, the local rock station in my town, Muse is played every other song almost.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Arctic Monkeys.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I bet you look good on the dance floor...especially when the sun goes down round these old yellow bricks - just call me Mardy Bum 'cause baby I'm fluorescent and adolescent ;)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

my chem romance is my favorite band ever!!!!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Florence and the Machine, Florrie, Marina and the Diamonds...!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is something I've always disagreed with, personally. Look at it this way: if music is truly good and meaningful, then it shouldn't be easy to look for, and I don't think it should be easily accessible to people who don't want it. I've tried listening to classical music and I genuinely didn't like it, so I'm not going to search for it anymore, and I also don't want it shoved in my face. I also think that truly good music is spoiled if a majority of its audience can't genuinely appreciate it.
