+222 Society's new obsession with physical health is stupid. If you want to be healthy, all the power to you, but it doesn't make you a superior human being. In the past, nobody gave a fuck if you smoked or ate as much as you pleased. Other people's lives are not any of your business, amirite?

I like how some perople are like "no way! Everybody should be healthy and it IS my buisness!" I say as long as their not a raging alcoholic and ruining their life, or they eat so much that they're gonna die before 40, leave em be.

I think strangers' lives are none of your business. But if there's a family member who's an alcoholic or obese, it IS your business, and you have to right to intervene.

I agree that how a person eats, if they smoke or drink is not my business, but I also think that some parts of a person's life ARE my business.

But not their health, which is what the post is talking about.

"Other people's lives are not your business" I honestly just hate how they went from so specific to general. I would have agreed if it said "Other people's health is none of your business."

It was just a reason why societies new obsession is stupid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Call me an idiot but I don't see what you mean.

Other's people lives not being your business is just a reason why societies new obsession with health, and healthy people thinking they're all high and mighty, is stupid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh. Well I still believe that some parts of a person's life is my business. But their health isn't. So if OP replaced lives with health, I would have no problem at all.

New obsession? the fact that people can survive without physical heath is new.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

but if a loved one of mine was doing things that risked their health such as excessive smoking or drinking, im going to make it my business and try to help them because i care about them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it IS my business when im a taxpayer and my taxes are paying for the health and care of people that are obese and have diseases. Maybe if you knew how much it cost each year to treat people will self inflicted diseases then you would change your mind :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because our govn't would bring the taxes down if less people used hospitals. No, they'd add it onto their paychecks.

This is a key argument against universal or government funded health care systems.

It kinda does make you better if you make smarter decisions, regarding health or whatever. It's the whole, "Every person is born equal, but people's decisions make them unequal." Choosing to have bad health is indisputably pretty dumb. People didn't care in the past because they didn't know how bad it was.

Seriously. In my health class, they talk about being fat or a smoker/drinker is absolutely the worst thing you can be.
