If you consider them an immediate family member, that *probably* means you're going to see them sometime on their birthday, no? So why even bother saying it on Facebook, just say it when you see them in person.

That sounds exactly as awkward as it should be. Saying happy birthday over facebook seems very superficial (to me, at any rate), and you probably don't have that sort of relationship with an immediate family member, I'd assume.
