Looks like your English teacher isn't paid enough

My dad is a politician and he's up in our state capital for 5 days a week and doesn't come home until the weekends. If anything he's under paid too.

how come you go straight for the politicians? i would say the most overpaid would be our entertainers (athletes, musicians...)

But people are paying them by going to their shows, buying what they endorse, and buying their merchandise. The money isn't coming out of thin air.

I don't think you realise how hard politicians actually work. My mum is a politician and she doesn't get paid nearly as much as she deserves for the time and effort she puts into the position. She is hardly ever home and when she is, she has stacks of paperwork to read not to mention the responsibility placed on her for the decisions she has to make.

People also don't realize that a lot of politicians have other jobs. When I worked at a grocery store, my boss became a state senator and I couldn't talk to him for two minutes without his cell phone going off or somebody stopping him to talk.

Yes! My mum has to have another job to be able to support herself. Well it's her own business so she is able to do it on weekends. Going shopping with her is so frustrating because people always want to stop and talk to her and it takes three times as long as it should.

How exactly do you gauge how hard somebody works? That being asked, if you could gauge how hard a person works, how would you put a price on it? The price people are paid for their job is usually based on the amount of people who want to do that job. People are firefighters not for the pay, but because they want to save lives. If there were a lack of firefighters, then the income for being one would be raised so that more people would do it.

I've always thought the free market is the best system of determining the value of a person's contribution to society and the adequate compensating for it. It's too bad that some people's wages like teachers aren't controlled in anyway by the free market.

Some doctors make way more money than they deserve and others make way less money than they deserve. Being a doctor doesn't make you entitled to money- being a good doctor does. The better you are, the more money you'll make.

The politicians in Washington are the overpaid ones. State representatives are not necessarily overpaid. Pro football/basketball/baseball players are WAY overpaid. I do more work in school than pro baseball players have ever done in their career. Do I get paid to go to school? NOOOOO. It just shows how uneven the distribution of wealth is here in America. 99% to 1%, people.

The reason pro sports players get paid so much is because they're the only ones who have practiced and practiced until they became great at helping the team win. For example, one reason Tiger Woods gets paid so much is because there's nobody who could easily replace him and do as well as him. Another reason is that people continue to sponsor him and watch him play golf. If you want to blame anyone, blame his sponsors and the people who watch him. Now teachers on the other hand, they get paid shit because they're easily replaceable and lots of people go to college to be teachers. I'm not saying that there aren't great teachers out there who deserve more, but there's a reason some people get paid more than others. It's not just "oops we forgot about them." If you really think you do more work in school than a pro-basketball player does in his career, then maybe you should have started practicing playing basketball when you were younger so you could have been better than him.

But they are generating that revenue. I'm not saying it's perfect but pro sports is an enormous industry. You might as well say that wall street is overpaid. It might be true but that's where the money is.
