+213 Above the Influence: Because we all know that drinking alcohol and trying weed will immediately take away all of our hopes and dreams, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Above the influence just does not want kids to fall into peer pressure. I don't see anything wrong with that... And weed is a gateway drugs to other drugs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes like soda is a gateway to alcohol.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Comparing those two is rediculous honestly. Read my other comment bellow.

I really don't believe the gateway drug theory. I used to think it was completely true because that what they taught in health class. But there really isn't that much evidence to back it up. There's really no proof that cannabis, alcohol, caffeine actually causes (or encourages) people to try other more harmful drugs. People who use marijuana are likely a little bit reckless, rebellious, and not very health conscious so they are much more likely to try other drugs like speed LSD or meth. That doesn't mean that cannabis caused them to try other drugs. It's a correlation, not a causation. There are actually a lot of people (including doctors and scientists) who criticize the gateway drug theory. You can read more about it here: http://healthland.time.com/2010/10/29/marijuna-as-a-gateway-drug-the-myth-that-will-not-die/ http://scienceblog.com/12116/study-says-marijuana-no-gateway-drug/ http://stopthedrugwar.org/news/2010/sep/02/study_disputes_marijuana_gateway http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14990863?dopt=Abstract

Lol I'm not just going off of what other people told me. That's my opinion based on personal experience.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Fair enough.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Can someone clarify to me? What do you mean by propaganda commercials making it seem like drugs are a joke

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Go. To YouTube and watch a bunch of "above the influence" commercials.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIU2UXUlFyM This is the kind of stuff above the influence has. It's a lot of propaganda. They try to scare kids out of doing drugs with really gross and disturbing images. There's very little science or logic behind anything they saw. I can't find it online, but I always here above the influence commercials that claim tobacco companies kill puppies and try to brainwash children.

This is the exact commercial I was referring to in my post even though they're all horribly biased. It's like, this girl could have just drank a little too much on this ONE NIGHT and thrown up but it doesn't mean she's throwing away her hopes and dreams.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

@FEMMAnist Honestly I don't think that commercial was completely ridiculous. The girl appears to have a big alcohol problem and she is potentially crushing her dreams and achievements because of the addiction, and will continue to until she gets help.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

@Isawagothopotamus the girl doesn't seem to have a huge #alcohol problem. She appears to have gotten #drunk at a #party.

The key word here is 'influence.' If you don't smoke or drink often enough for it to inhibit you, then it's not really an influence in your life.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I doubt Keith Richards, Seth Rogen, Bill Maher, Kesha, Paul McCartney, Sarah Silverman, Snoop Dogg, Woody Harrelson, Rihanna or Bill Clinton would agree with that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The sarcasm should be obvious in this post.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It should have been posted in sarcasm then, maybe? Many people truly think that way.
