I'm shocked by the amount of No Way's this post has...and they say obesity and bad lifestyles are exaggerated in America (I single out the US because this site is predominantly made up of them)

I am a tiny person with little upper body strength. Pull-ups are a lot of work. I could do some push-ups, though.

I also have small stature, but I exercise and eat properly and I can do a bunch of em. Its really not that hard...people are just too fuckin lazy to care.

Eating healthy and exercising daily doesn't build the upper body strength needed to do a pull up.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Of course it does...well, it should. What exercise do you do, exactly? I eat healthy and exercise my entire body; not just my thumbs on the playstation. I don't know what kind of exercise you do where the muscle apparently builds everywhere but upper body...you should try swimming or rugby or cricket or tennis...those activities will give you a full body work out.

I played basketball and soccer in middle school as well as running cross country and track, but I wasn't able to do a pull up until freshman year of high school when we started using the weight room for cross country. I'm just saying there are forms of regular exercise that don't build upper body strength, especially cardio.

To be honest dude, all I see is you making excuses.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, I'm countering your argument. Not being able to do a pullup does not indicate obesity and laziness. It is easily possible to be a perfectly healthy person who exercises regularly and not be able to a pullup.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But if you are a perfectly healthy human being who exercises regularly, how are you not able to do one simple pull-up?? I don't get this! If you exercise (nothing extremely lower body specific) and eat correctly your body should have a natural full-body muscle tone. How is it THAT difficult to do ONE? Where I'm from, if you cant do ONE pull-up, your Man Card: Revoked!!!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It does if you exercise with a pull-up bar.

It might not come as easily for a girl.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I bet that a lot of soccer players don't have a ton of upper body strength because they mainly exercise their legs. Does this mean they don't eat right or exercise? No.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

True, but that is a very specific case. In the broader picture of things I would imagine that isn't the case.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, I can think of a number of sports that only work one half of the body. Soccer was just an example.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sure, there are lots of sports that only worker your lower body. What I meant was that even in those sports (say soccer or athletics) you still use your arms, albeit not alot, and if you eat healthily it's not like all the goodness and nutrients of food go straight to your legs, some will go to your arms too. Those professional soccer players or professional athletes have massive legs, but their arms arent just skin and bone, there is muscle there too, and i doubt it's from hours in the gym working on them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can only do 2 or 3... But damn. ONE pull up? not that hard.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I feel bad now. I lack any kind of upper body strength...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not even remotely fit, I can't do a push-up either.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Neither can I. I can do tons of sit ups and that's about it.
