+171 Science was made to help understand the world that surrounds us. Religion, whether you personally subscribe to it or not, was made to give us some meaning to the world. Despite much tension between the two their seems to be a misconception that one is more suitable than another. Simply put while you may not believe in both you can't say one is more fitting than another because they both fulfill their own unique roles, amirite?

Personally I think religion was invented to control people.

Unfortunately, many people try to replace science with religion, so myths which were supposed to be used for teaching lessons and passing on traditions are embraced as empirical fact.

Right on.

religion was invented in place of science because people hadn't thought up science yet. They couldnt figure out how the world was formed, and thus created a being that created everything. I'm honestly surprised religion has lasted as long as it has, but as long as people still fear death religion will still exist.

As long as people don't understand, religion shall exist. Religion is a belief and as long as there is that which is unknown than humans shall always have to believe in what they can not know, or comprehend. Religion is more than an explanation of death, its an elaboration of life, a comprehensive need for man to explain that which he could never comprehend for it is impossible to comprehend infinity. If in knowing everything humans know of a God than religion will cease to exist because it is no longer a belief, but instead becomes a fact. The same is true if there is no god at the end of infinite knowledge than this knowledge becomes fact.

Religion is usually used for selfish reasons. It's to make people feel better about themselves and to know that they serve a place somewhere (heaven). Every human being needs to endure the feeling of love which is where God comes in place. Science usually gives evidence and strict facts.

Is science not its own selfish desire. Think not of your own beliefs for a minute here and let me explain mine. Science is the pursuit of knowledge and why do we seek knowledge? for the same reason we flock to religion. Because we need order, as a race the unknown terrifies us. However, it is at this point that these two part as religion gives a "meaning" to life it gives there a reason for being, rather than just being, science simply doesn't. Science seeks to help mankind understand the world in which we live it gives no purpose to life but it does further the understanding of the universe. both seek to help alleviate our fear of the unknown, yet the two are so profoundly different simply because they were made to be different. Science was never made to replace religion it was made to merely explain the realm that science could not, and vice verse.
