+52 Addiction is not in things; it is in a weak mind, amirite?

Except for meth, that shit's addicting.

meth is a drug; it has qualities of pleasuring the brain but here too it is the brain that gets addicted. Meth never demands the brain; it is the brain that demands Meth :)

That's a little different. If your brain demands something, that doesn't mean you have a weak mind. Even someone with a strong mind couldn't say, "hey, brain. Turn off this chemical addiction and stop craving meth!" Someone could be addicted to meth with just one use.

strong mind are rarest; you will understand when you come across one :)

So you think someone with a strong mind could beat a chemical addition with no help from rehab or medication or anything? I could agree with you if we were talking about psychological addiction. Most people don't know that after one week without smoking, you are no longer addicted to nicotine. The addiction that remains is oral fixation or just habit.

as you said that after one week without smoking, you are no longer addicted to nicotine; this itself shows a 'strong' move by an weak addicted mind. so yes, someone with strong mind can beat the addiction.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I guess, but I think meth is a whole different story.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, chemically substances are addictive

Anybody can become addicted to anything. It does not matter if they are "strong minded" or not. Strong minded people could be less prone to addiction, but that does not mean that they are immune to it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

strong mind itself means a mind which cannot be addicted. if it gets addicted then it has weakness :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Also untrue. While I agree "weak minded" people can become addicted, but do can "strong minded" people. Having a strong mind does not make you immune to nicotine or anything else. It makes nicotine easier to overcome, but not any harder to fall to.

Strong minds are still prone to mental illness and psychological issues. If you have some neurological/psychological disorder that manifests itself in the form of an addiction, you'll probably need a lot more than a strong mind to change it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, we all got our addictions I belive. I have several addictions :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

you can get rid of them only by your strong will.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not really... Stuff like heroin makes you get addicted, in that your mind and body can get really messed up if you stop doing it. Your brain and/or body get used to it being there, and then stop knowing how to function properly without it. When your brain gets messed up like that, even the strongest people wouldn't be able to think enough to have the willpower to stop. I suppose people do exist who are somehow immune to addiction or have endless willpower. Those people would probably also find it easy to go a few weeks without any food, since I'd say that's kinda what trying to give up something like heroin would feel like.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i agree to whatever you said but intake of heroin will anyhow kill the human; why not try to educate the mind and develop a will. Even if the death happens then it will be less dangerous than that with the intake of drugs :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nahh there's no such thing as a "weak mind"...its all about if you have an addictive personality or not. And obviously what you're addicted to has an impact. There are some people that are hooked after one cigarette and others that are able to have one every so often and not be addicted.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

An addicted brain is an altered brain, not a weak brain. Addiction was probably a useful quality for humans thousands of years ago. Only now when we have all these synthetic drugs and fast food on every corner is it a bad thing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not sure what you are saying with this. Addiction is a real chemical thing. Nobody's mind is strong enough to magic away heroine addiction with sheer will power. You can't just change the chemical structure of your brain like that. But yeah, french fry/cell phone addictions are bullshit. If you can't snap out of those kind of addictions, you must have some serious deep psychological issues.
