+178 It's sad that foreigners end up getting low-pay service jobs when, considering that they learned a new language, are probably pretty intelligent. amirite?

My gosh, the stereotypes in this post are ridiculous...

Whether or not they are intelligent, and they still lack specialized skills, ie what you need to get a good job. Not that specialized skills will necessarily get you a good job in this economy anyway...

This is somewhat racist...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not really, since the same could be said of anyone of any race working in the service industry...

It's not that they aren't intelligent...if they end up with a low-paying job here it's probably because they didn't get proper education. You could be brilliant but if you don't have access to getting a degree, you have slim chances of getting a well payed job, especially if you have a family to feed. And no, I wouldn't even say //most// foreigners get a low paying job. Not even most first-generation foreigners. That's kind of a demeaning generalization. Just because you are foreign doesn't mean you're stupid or incompetent. Depending on how you look at it, we're all foreigners.

Learning a new language, however difficult it may be, does not equal intelligence.

You have to put in consideration why they moved here: opportunity. Their standard of living wasn't desirable enough and so they moved to America. The Mexicans in my town make decent money and they live off of less money than the typical American. If they don't need it, they don't buy it. We could learn from them.

Not to be racist, but many- not all- are here illegally and cannot produce proper documentation to get high paying jobs.

Or they could just be stupid in two languages.

This post is very poorly worded.
