+84 It's a little hypocritical for women to make the my body- my choice argument when it comes to abortion, and still expect men to pay child support, amirite?

I agree, unless the father of the child wants anything to do with the child's life, if they do then they should pay child support, if they don't want to pay child support then they should hand over all rights.

It's called financial abortion, I believe. You don't pay child support, and in return, you hand over all rights to the mother. It can only be overturned by a mutual agreement from both parents.

I came here to say that, definitely an interesting concept. It levels the playing field.

I don't think it's the woman's choice if the dad is deadbeat.

If the woman can't support the child, and she's dependent on the man to do it, I'd say it's pretty bloody important whether or not he's up for it.

meh, I think he should still pay child support. For some people, abortion is not an option at all. And after all, it is the guys baby too! he did help make it haha, so they should have to deal with the consequences. (yeah I know condoms break, shit happens) but still, it's also unfair that a mother should have to raise the child on her own, it's alot of work and a lot of money! This is coming from someone whose father does not pay child support.

It is sort of an unfair system, but I can't think of a better one. The choice to get an abortion is ultimately the woman's choice. It would be unfair for her partner (or the government) to force her to get an abortion or go through childbirth against her will. This sucks for guys because they have to pay child support or watch their adorable little zygote be exterminated and there is nothing they can do about it. The way around this problem is to agree on a unplanned pregnancy plan with your partner before you ever have sex. That way you can avoid all those "I can't believe you want to kill my baby/force me into premature fatherhood and make me pay child support" arguements.
