+243 It's pretty sad that Hitler changed the meaning of the swastika from "to be good" to "mass murder," I realize he didn't actually change it, but he did take away the ancient meaning, amirite?

It's weird how things like that can change. You would think that after the word or symbol being what it was for so long, that it would be more difficult to change.

I read that he just flipped the original swaztika ('arrows' pointing left, to 'arrows' pointing right) and changed the meaning.

He didn't really take much away. The people to whom the symbol belonged still use it without reserve, as is their right. Little boys as girls in India are still named Aryan and Arya, which means noble. It is only the west that automatically thinks of Hitler when talking about swastikas. To the Hindus, it has, and always will, hold only it's original intended meaning.

Western Hindus, however, may be in somewhat of a bind.

Lol. In the west, we are more bummed out about not being able to use loud fireworks on Diwali.

Why can't it be both?
