+166 On a first date, it's fair to assume that each person will pay for themselves (i.e. own movie ticket). Only when you're exclusive is it okay to let the other person pay for you. In a heterosexual couple, it should be okay for the boy to pay for the girl and the girl to pay for the boy, amirite?

First date, guy pays. That's just how it works.

Yeah no. The person who asked the other out should pay, but you still should expect to pay your half and at least offer.

I don't see why anyone has to pay for anyone else, and I'm a woman. If your a female and independent pay for yourself dammit. Exception is if your asked and u tell the guy ur broke and he offers to pay. But generally idk who asked who out I have job so that I can go out and be able to pay for myself this isn't the 40s ppl.

For my first date with my boyfriend i thought i was paying my half but he wouldnt let me. Now he pays the ticket nd i pay for the meal. Sometimes i take him out to eat and sometimes he does. We take turns. I think its only fair.

First date, the boy typically pays. It's traditional. I think the opposite is more true. During the first stages and first few dates, the boy should pay. After that, if you want you can split or go back and forth or something. I've never had a boy not pay for a date, though. Not that I'm unwilling to pay for myself. I totally will if I'm asked to, but it's just...uncommon where I live.

My parents, although they're pretty open minded, would lose a lot of respect if they figured out a boyfriend of mine didnt pay for our date. To my parents, it's more of a sign of being a gentleman and showing you can be able to care for the other person.
