The Voyager Golden Record is a phonograph record containing various sounds and images intended to portray life on Earth for any life form that may intercept it in the distant future. It includes spoken greetings in 59 languages, 21 natural "sounds of Earth," 27 musical selections, a brainwave recording, and 116 pictures of people, places, inventions, and diagrams. It is interesting to think about how all of Earth and humanity has been dwindled down to this, our last remaining relic, amirite?

I'm guessing the whole issue of how the aliens would decode this information and understand it wasn't really given much thought?

There are diagrams on the record to show how it would work and it was a special type of record that could be played in various ways.

Ok well that answers that question... But even still, surely this would be the biggest obstacle for whoever came across this 'golden record'.

If anyone is interested, this record also hold songs that portray human emotions, "Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground" by Blind Willie Johnson was chosen for sadness, its one of my favorite songs and you should go listen to it

It's like we're begging them to come eat our brains.
