Sometime it is valid to extrapolate a general truth about a group by measuring a reasonable sample of that group and without measuring every last member of said group. For example, take the theory that "women tend to be more emotionally-driven while men tend to be more logic-driven". It is not necessary to measure all men and all women on the planet in order to establish this fact with a reasonable degree of certainty, amirite?
