You mean her right arm? No. That's a problem to be fixed by shading. There's no darker tone of peach on this drawing thing, but I did all I could on the other colours. It's a decent drawing for one with no outlines.
Hell, it looks better than the OUTLINE version of that other OP's drawing.
That's a great drawing but it would look even better with outlines. It's not because outlines are some sort of a requisite for a cartoon. It is simply because Ariel and all her other cartoon friends have always had outlines and they just look incomplete without them.
Eh maybe, but my post was that without outlines it doesn't have to look like shit, you know? In that other post they drew shit, and then an outlined drawing, an so everyone was like OH YOU'RE SO RIGHT THAT DOES LOOK LIKE SHIT WITHOU OUTLINES! and I just wanted to prove them wrong, and that they're just a bad artist.
Oh no I didn't mean that! I meant that their post is biased because it depends on their skill. Their illustration backed up a wrong statement, so I drew a counter-example to prove that statement wrong. Because otherwise no one else believed me... Did you read that argument? They were all "no but outlines are ALWAYS better you don't know anything"...
To constantly flaunt or show off a piece of your art (or anything else for that matter) can really make you look like an arrogant and cocky ass hole. I think the drawing is good but I don't like the message behind it. The way you brag and act like you're the best artist kind of ruins the picture for me.
Being modest is something you should try going for.
Haha I know. I haven't been serious in a single comment on this post (except this one and the art pics).
I'm not taking the post seriously, so I don't want to seriously speak of it as an art piece. So I'm just joking around.
I don't really think I'm that good an artist, it's just something I could do, so I did it. If you don't like the piece, I'm glad. I didn't draw it to be liked, only to prove a point. (I don't even like that it's homepaged)
Sure, it might be a joke but it just seems cocky as fuck. That's all I'm saying. I just think there's always a limit for jokes. Joke around once, it's pretty funny. But hearing the joke said over and over again gets old and makes people start to think that you're actually serious about it.
Lol, I think it's really good though and I still want you to continue making them. I'm just hating the message behind it.
Lol okay sorry. I got tired of it too actually, but I can't just suddenly switch from " Oh yeah I'm badass" to "Thank you so much kind sir! I'm so honoured to have this homepaged!", I kind of have to keep going with the same tone, you know, if it's the same post.
Well, this is just a suggestion but maybe you don't have to even comment back to each compliment. Or you could just say a simple "thanks". The first time you say "thanks", people will understand that you appreciate it. I'll admit & say that joking around & saying it once or twice in a post can be funny though. But whatever, I was just putting part of my 2 cents in. Only a opinion.
Psssst, I bet you're only showing me that to promote more of your drawings. Trying to make me even more fucking jealous, huh?
Thanks for making me feel bad about myself. (cry2)
I'm in some art program at my school (it's a shitty program though. Lol, don't expect it to be good). I'm more for drawing sketches though. I used to want to be an architect too. I don't have enough patience for doing anything like you do. I tried doing something on here & I was like, "pssh, well fuck. I can't do this. NEVER MIND ".
If you don't mind me asking, what are you best at? Are you only good with cartoons or is there other stuff that you do?
Lol yeah way to persevere. Didn't adults ever tell you to "never give up" and "try again"? I re-start my drawing like 3 times any time I make a post like this.
Hey you know what's the thing I hate most in the comments? Irrelevant conversations. It'd make me a hypocrite if I did that on my own post...
Great drawing . . . but this might be the point where it ranges from cartoon to stylized drawing. Really just depends on your definition of cartoon, I guess.
I don't know if you're kidding or not, but the same subject does not equal same style. There are realistic paintings of mermaids floating (pun not intended) all over the internet, and though they may be inspired by cartoons, they in themselves aren't cartoons. I don't want to get into a big discussion about this that will likely lead nowhere, just wanted to make that point.
Yeah but this isn't a realistic drawing, it's the exact cartoon from the cartoon itself. It has 0 artist interpretation -- it is the cartoon. How can it not be a cartoon?
I just wanted to point out that while yes, your drawing looks excellent without an outline, the actual cartoon itself would not. You used a lot of shading which created depth. In the movie itself, Ariel is all solid colors. She NEEDED the outline, like most cartoons that do not utilize shading.
You can't say that without the outline she still would have looked as good.
I end up finding a lot of art (mostly illustration) through tumblr which is pretty nice. The fuckyeahillustrativeart is the most useful for that. And the one by Pascal Campion is just because I immediately thought of him when I saw this post, since most of his works don't use outlines.
Wow, this picture looks great! Now I'm imagining it with outlines... and thinking it would look even better. The original post didn't say outlines were needed to look GOOD, just that they make the cartoon look BETTER.
Fuck you, you artistic bastard.
Yeah, you can't just dismiss my art arguments without getting completely fucking owned.
Well, while that is a stellar drawing, she does appear to have a stump of an arm, a problem that could be fixed by outlines.
You mean her right arm? No. That's a problem to be fixed by shading. There's no darker tone of peach on this drawing thing, but I did all I could on the other colours. It's a decent drawing for one with no outlines.
Hell, it looks better than the OUTLINE version of that other OP's drawing.
Yeah, I really liked what you did with shading. Her hair looks great!
That's a great drawing but it would look even better with outlines. It's not because outlines are some sort of a requisite for a cartoon. It is simply because Ariel and all her other cartoon friends have always had outlines and they just look incomplete without them.
I did this just for you, and honestly, it doesn't look that much better with outlines: http://ctrlv.in/83019
Eh maybe, but my post was that without outlines it doesn't have to look like shit, you know? In that other post they drew shit, and then an outlined drawing, an so everyone was like OH YOU'RE SO RIGHT THAT DOES LOOK LIKE SHIT WITHOU OUTLINES! and I just wanted to prove them wrong, and that they're just a bad artist.
i'm impressed the comparison sold me

Yeah I'm not replying to compliments anymore.
Lol wait do you draw too?

Wait this isn't a cartoon anymore?
I drew it from here: and I'm pretty sure that's a cartoon...

Do not tell me you did this with a mouse.
No. I did it with the keyboard.
Awesome job! I was thinking about doing this after I saw the other post, but seeing as you had that discussion, you did great.
I completely agree and here's a bunch of examples for anyone unconvinced/cares to click:

Those are great! How'd you find them?

I wanna tell that to the My Little Pony creators. The outlining in that show looks horrible when up close.
Some anon on this post really doesn't like you.
Haha, don't worry, a lot of anons on this site don't like me. Non-anons too, even.
SOmeone posted this the other day
and this is chauncy
alright, you don't need lines, but it would definitely help if you had more colors...
