+166 If you compare big name rappers of today to the big name rappers from when it first emerged there's a huge gap between their rap styles and their life styles, amirite?

If you compare nearly anything to when it first came out to now, there will be a huge difference.

I dunno, pop music is still mostly about boys or relationships, just more explicit now than it was in the day.

Not saying I agree or disagree, but give an example.

Like nowadays it's all pretty boy rappers who only talk about getting girls and drugs and money and how they were always "the best". Back in the day it was about the lives of the rappers and the struggles they went through to get to the top.

While that is true, I think there is a lot you have to take into consideration. Another important thing is who you are talking about these days. Another thing is, the first rap groups paved the way for current day rappers. I'm no expert on rap artists' lives, but I believe a lot of the well-known ones group up in the projects and/or had rough lives. They can't really write more about the same thing because I don't think it would sell as well. Still not saying you're wrong, it's just really interesting to think about.
