-43 It's completely understandable to wear a seat belt when on the road, but it's annoying how cars have little warning noises when someone isn't wearing theirs. A seat belt is not needed if you're just moving your car a few feet or going to slowly ride down a gravel road or something, amirite?

BUT WHAT IF A GIANT FLYING TURTLE COMES CRASHING INTO YOUR CAR. OR A FLYING DINOSAUR.

Then you must be driving in a prehistoric hurricane and wearing a seat belt should be the least of your worries.

I'm surprised so many disagreed

I know, right? I mean I was taught at a very young age to put on my seat belt when I get in a car so it's like a reflex to me, but I understand there's no need for one in certain situations.

Same! I feel weird with out one

by Anonymous 11 years ago

True, but it's not gonna hurt to wear a seatbelt.

Sometimes my mom will put groceries in one of the seats, and it'll detect the weight and think someone's sitting there.

I feel lame putting a statistic-like thing but majority of accidents happen within a mile of your home. My friend just got in a crash about 2 houses down from her own. You really just don't know what might happen and it's not like seatbelts are much of a struggle, so why take the chance?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Seriously. What's wrong with all you commenters? You never know when a car can rear end you out of nowhere; that seat belt could save your life. If it's so much of a bother, turn the car off. But they have that alert for a reason.

I doubt a car is going to come out of nowhere and rear end me while I'm driving down a long driveway. You're acting as though not wearing a seat belt increases a person's chance of being in an accident when really it stays the same. The difference is the consequences of an accident if one should happen. To try to clarify my point even further, which would I be more likely to be in an accident: On a highway going 55mph or on a gravel road going 15mph? And if I were in an accident in either situation, which would have the most serious consequence? I don't mean to get into a big discussion about general seat belt laws and regulations but did you know that when seat belts were added to cars, more accidents occurred because people felt safer? The extra safety made people less careful when driving because Mr. Seatbelt would save the day. I'm not saying people shouldn't wear seat belts, but there are some circumstances that wearing one doesn't really matter. I mean what's the world coming to when people are afraid of things as little as not wearing a seat belt for a minute or two?

I don't feel like getting in a big ol' discussion but that's just the way i feel. Anything can happen at any moment. And it's best to be as safe as possible. But i wasn't intending to act like wearing a seatbelt decreases accidents, accidents have their own probability of happening, i was trying to say that a seatbelt can reduce injury if an accident /were/ to happen. And accidents can happen whenever, wherever. I know at some times it's extremely unlikely for one to happen, but life is cray cray sometimes. I'm done with this conversation though. Concluding, i don't wear my seatbelt at times i feel it's not needed, i'm sure everyone does the same.

All vehicles have instructions to turn off the 'no seat belt beeping' in their manual

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think they should make it so that cars beep if you have started your car and have been driving for more than 5 minutes. That way, it won't beep when you are just going to move your car or something like that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That sounds fair.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Most of the cars I've been in only beep when you're going over a certain speed.
