+262 If you don't work, you shouldn't be allowed to call yourself working class, amirite?

Ok, first of all I don't mean people who are jobless due to unfortunate circumstances and are legit looking for work. But half the people I know have been welfare/disability most of their lives, and they spend all day smoking weed and shit. If you don't work, you don't get to claim you're working class - you should call yourself lower class or lower-middle class. Even if we live in the same shitty neighbourhood and have similar lives, if I work and you don't, I'm working class and you're not. I live from pay check to pay check, you live from welfare check to welfare check.

My husband works but I don't work because I stay home to watch the kids and take care of the house. I still consider myself working class?

I'd say yes, because it can apply to a household rather than individuals - if the household isn't entirely dependant on government benefits, then yes.
