+255 Kids aren't going to turn into sex-crazed, alcoholic party addicts solely because of the pop industry. Sure they might kind of admire Nicki Minaj or Ke$ha now, but then they grow up, form their own opinions, and develop their own plans for life. Kind of like how you did, amirite?

To be fair, we had Britney Spears, who ended up going to rehab, losing her career, and becoming a despicable person because of drugs. Nicki Minaj is just... scary.

That was like 2007. 90's kids were not kids in 2007.

Britney Spears spiked in 2000/2001. Most people born in the 90s grew up listening to it. Most people born in the early 2000s are into the beiber/manaj crap now. See my point?

I know but Brittany burned out in 2007. And hey, 80's kids probably thought the same about Brittany. It's all about perspective. I like beiber as a person because he was able to live through all that internet hate. I like Minaj as a person because she doesn't care what people think of her. And last time i checked, she's sober. I don't really like their music in general, but they each have a few songs that I have a soft spot for.

But we didn't admire these people that were bad. I don't know anyone who liked Britney Spears. They might've liked her music, but not her. And most of my "role models" when I was younger are people I look back on and say "those people were pretty awesome. I want to be like them." i.e. Raven Symone, Shia Labeouf, and Kim Possible.

Ah, fair. What I'm trying to get at is that people's opinions and role models change, and when they grow up they probably won't want to be like whoever. If they do then you've let the pop industry raise your child. Which is bad. Also Shia Labeouf is a cannibal.

I swear, if my child ends up wanting to be like Nicki Minaj......

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If the pop industry is raising your child, then you fail at parenting.

Haha, she probably (hopefuly) will have fallen off the face of the earth by the time I actually have kids xD

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I dunno. Britney spears, from the last generation, is still going strong...

Mmph, very true. /:

I get what you're saying, but the media is one of the biggest influences in a child's life and they tend to mold their beliefs around what they experience in their environment

I happen to be a sex-crazed, alcoholic party addict and I approve this message.
