That sounds a little like its happened to you. Well, it's probably happened to most of us. It doesn't bother me very much because it just show how dumb the liars are for thinking we won't pick up on the lie.

I'm not sure that it's that they doubt your intelligence, but more that they're not smart enough to keep the story up. Of course, I'm sure it differs from case to case.
