It's not screwed up that society teaches people how not to be raped instead of not to rape. Rapists are probably going to do it anyway, since it's pretty obvious that raping someone is wrong. The best we can do is teach self defense or prevention, amirite?
Like you don't try to convince the Earth not to quake, you teach people what to do in an earthquake. The Earth can't understand that quaking kills people, and rapists just don't care that what they do deeply affects others.
It's not like teaching them would literally just be sitting them down and saying "Don't rape people!" It would be a psychological thing. We've never even given it a shot.
My point is we've never actually tried to address those psychological problems. So no, we haven't.
They're sentenced to shitty therapy by state psychologists. Teaching victims to make themselves less "rape-able" only makes it seem like it's their fault.
Yes, we have. Whenever they're on trial, they're told that rape is wrong, and once they get out of jail, they go and rape someone again. There are those who stop, but those are rare because, like you said, it is a psychological problem, not just an intense want.
Not en masse, but a lot of rapists are sentenced to therapy and it works very rarely. I've done some research and it turns out they're just assholes. It doesn't matter if it's a mental problem, the point is they're screwing up someone's life and should be removed from society, I stress again, whether or not it's their conscious decision. Since it's usually not, no amount of education will stop most of them, so we should teach the victims to make themselves less rape-able.
