It's not religion that's a problem, it's those who use it to shield their personal motives, amirite?

Actually, I'd say the main issue that stems from religion is fanatics. I think those fanatics actually misinterpret their religion's meaning rather than attempting to use it to shield their personal motives.

That being said, plenty of problems arise from people using religion to further themselves. It's just that unworthy people becoming wealthy from religious corruption isn't comparable to the terrorism that results from religious fanaticism.
