+137 When babies are born, they should be printed or have some sort of DNA put into the system for the future. That way, capturing someone who has left behind DNA of some sort for a crime committed will be much easier and there will be less John and Jane Doe's. amirite?

Invading my rights! What happened to democracy?!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How is that invading your rights?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

OR if your baby dies in the first five years of life or whatever, you can just have it duplicated!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How is that in any way related to the post?

I actually mostly agree with this, for medical purposes also. The only concern would be confidentiality. If someone got their hands on your DNA it could be bad. Also, if they screened the DNA and saw you would develop a certain genetic disorder that would kill you later, would you want to know?

YOLO

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah I would want to know. I if had a severe genetic disorder, I would want to be aborted.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You can't really change that after you're born...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah no shit. It's a hypothetical situation. No, a substandard life isn't better than no life to me. Other people may think differently, but I'd rather not live.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I disagree, It is my right to keep my DNA private to myself.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's people like you who keep crimes hard to solve and progress hard to make. If you don't want to do anything wrong, does it have a detrimental effect on you? if someone steals it, you can still provide an alibi.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

People like me? People who enjoy their rights to privacy and freedom? I make progress hard?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, you do.What the hell does it matter if the government has your DNA? It's not like they just open up the vault one day and think, ' Hmm, I wonder whose life i'm gong to screw over today.' It's morel iek if your DNA is found at the scene of a crime, a computer matches it with your face. Or if you die somewhere, you get a proper funeral, not just dumped and no one knowing if it's you or not. You're no less free if a couple of people know your genetic code. It's wont be made public. All this human rights stuff is very good, until it fucks around with stuff that doesn't affect anyone and calls it unethical. A lot of it is unethical, but this has no REAL disadvantages.

DNA tests can sometimes be innaccurate so I may be wrongfully accused of a crime. It's just a matter of principle. It's an extreme invasion of privacy on the governments part. No where in the constitution does it say that the government can hover over me at birth and draw blood from my child. It is just another example the government monopolizing the people.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Would be an incredible abuse of power. If you commit a crime you get finger printed and your DNA gets put in the system. If you don't you are allowed to continue your confidentiality

DNA evidence may work on crime shows, but, in real life, it is pretty much useless for finding suspects. Think of how much DNA you have on you. Bits of hair that have blown off other people's heads, gotten stuck to your shoes, and you've trapsed them around the whole city, eventually leaving them in a building the owner never even stepped foot in. For a place, the DNA evidence is overwhelming. Hair from people, saliva or mucus of sneezes and coughs, sweat, skin flakes... it basically adds to just a building that is a living record of anyone who went in it or near it for the past several years. DNA's only really useful if you HAVE a strong case against a suspect and just want one more thing to add to it. It's not like on CSI where they walk into the bank, pick up the ONE solitary hair from the desk, test it, and have a suspect. That hair could've fallen off some random person's (who the hair didn't even belong) jumper a week ago.

I understand the intention here, but this is a horrible idea. Just remember that any power given to the government WILL eventually be abused.
